Quality Control of Cuban Cigars

Habanos S.A. are the sole company in the world responsible for the marketing of Cuban cigars. Contrary, however to what many people think, Habanos are not the company that sell the Cuban cigars to the retailers. There is a worldwide distribution network of official suppliers appointed by Habanos who control each country's supply of Havana cigars. Hence any internet website claiming to be supplied directly from Habanos are playing economical with the truth. Either that or they are just plain wrong and probably up to no good. No retailer is supplied by Habanos - in all countries that Habanos do business in there are official distributors who supply the retailers on behalf of Habanos. The list of each country's official distributor can be found at the website of Habanos - click here for details. More details about the role of Habanos can be found by clicking here.

The official distributor for Habanos cigars in Spain and France is Altadis - www.altadis.com

In the United States the company is known as Altadis USA - www.altadisusa.com

Our cigar boxes have all the markings associated with the genuine Cuban article and their official distributors Altadis:-

1. A factory code and date is ink-stamped on the base of the wooden box.
2. The Cuban dollar seal is placed with the lid of the box running through the centre of the coat of arms.
3. The Habanos seal is placed across the corner of the box.
4. There is a heat-pressed stamp that reads "Habanos s.a. HECHO EN CUBA Totalmente a mano" on the base of the box.
5. There are certificates of authenticity inside the boxes.
6. All boxes without exception come with the round blue official seal of Altadis.

The first official seal ever put on a box of Cuban cigars was issued by decreto real of the Spanish King in 1889 when Cuba was under Spanish rule - www.habanos.net - and it was only later in 1912 that the Cuban dollar seal was introduced by the independant government of Cuba.

The Real Thing? No, the top lid of the box should dissect the coat of arms on the Cuban dollar seal. Also the seal is normally on the left hand side of the box on Romeo y Julieta cigars.

The famed "glass-topped" humidor of Cohiba - as fake as the day as long. Cohiba have never made, do not make and probably never will make such a box.
