Unlike the majority of the Habanos brands that owe their origins to Spanish emigrantes of the 1800s, Cohiba cigars were born and bred in Cuba. It is no exaggeration to say that Cohiba is a child of the revolution since the original models were made under the insignia of Ernesto "Che" Guevara when he was Minister for Industry in the 1960s. El Che, a qualified doctor of Argentine extraction, considered the cigar "un compa񥲯 indispensable de los revolucionarios". For 20 years Cohiba cigars were reserved for in-house use within the Cuban government and as gifts for foreign diplomats. In 1982 Cohiba cigars went on general sale to the public and in that short space of time the brand has established itself as the flagship of Habanos S.A. Though never the cheapest, Cohiba cigars are an eternal reminder that you get what you pay for.
